The MacBook Neo is a $500 Wake-Up Call for the Entire PC Industry

Let’s get the obvious out of the way first: if you’re reading TechSpot, you’re probably not the target audience for a laptop with a locked-down 8GB of RAM, no Thunderbolt, and a maximum of 512GB of storage. You built your rig. You know what PCIe Gen 5 means. You’ve got strong opinions about thermal paste. The MacBook Neo is not for you.

But here’s the thing about disruptive mainstream products – they rarely are for us. And the MacBook Neo might be the most consequential laptopannouncement in years, possibly since the original MacBook Air almost 20 years ago. Not because of what it does for power users, but because of what it does to the market that has existed almost entirely below the notice of enthusiasts: the budget Windows laptop space.

Apple planning new 3D-printed aluminum chassis for iPhone and Apple Watch: report – 9to5Mac

With the Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple introduced a new 3D-printing manufacturing processfor the titanium shell – allowing the company to save on raw materials, improve on cost, and use 100% recycled titanium powder. The company also uses 3D printing for the titanium version of the Apple Watch Series 11, as well as the USB-C port on iPhone Air.

Now, the company is looking to expand that process to aluminum – allowing most Apple Watch shells to be 3D printed. Further ahead, it may even come to the iPhone, per Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter.

AI allows hackers to identify anonymous social media accounts, study finds

AI has made it vastly easier for malicious hackers to identify anonymous social media accounts, a new study has warned.

In most test scenarios, large language models (LLMs) – the technology behind platforms such as ChatGPT – successfully matched anonymous online users with their actual identities on other platforms, based on the information they posted.

The AI researchers Simon Lermen and Daniel Paleka said LLMs make it cost effective to perform sophisticated privacy attacks, forcing a “fundamental reassessment of what can be considered private online”.
