Now that Apple has started blocking users under 18 in certain regions from downloading apps, the company has introduced new age verification tools. Those will help developers ”meet their age assurance obligations under upcoming US and regional laws, including in Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Utah and Louisiana,” the company said in a news release on its Developer site.
As of February 24, 2026, users in Australia, Brazil and Singapore won’t be able to download apps rated 18+ unless their age is confirmed through ”reasonable methods.” Apple noted that any apps distributed in Brazil that are declared to contain loot boxes will be updated to 18+. While the App Store can perform those checks automatically, ”developers may have separate obligations to independently confirm that their users are adults,” Apple wrote. For that, developers can employ the company’s Declared Age Range API (on iOS, iPadOS and macOS) to get ”helpful signals” about a user’s age.

When Norwegian news outlet iNyheter reported that former Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt, it was defying a coordinated media blackout. The Norwegian Editors’ Association and selected editors had struck a deal with Jagland’s attorney, Anders Brosveet, on February 17 to keep the hospitalization out of the press, according to Anadolu Agency. iNyheter published anyway, arguing that the corruption charges and Jagland’s public role justified disclosure.
Jagland, 75, is facing gross corruption charges connected to his relationship with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Norwegian police raided multiple properties belonging to the former prime minister earlier this month, after the US Justice Department’s latest Epstein file release documented an extended relationship between Jagland and the financier. NRK, Norway’s public broadcaster, reported that the pedophile had provided Jagland with trips and luxury accommodations.

FedEx sued the US government for reimbursement of cash it spent on President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The shipping giant’s lawsuit is the first filed by a major US company since the Supreme Court ruled Friday that the tariffs were illegal. The tariffs brought in an estimated $130 billion in revenue since they were imposed, and should other companies join FedEx — and win — it could be extremely costly for the administration; the decision followed a lawsuit by the retailer Costco and others claiming the levies were unlawful.
They’re not the only ones to spot an opportunity: 22 Senate Democrats called for the overturned import duties to be reimbursed to the public, with interest, in what Bloomberg called “a populist election-year campaign.”

Alexander Embiricos, the lead of product development at OpenAI’s Codex, said the company gets a lot of messages from engineers interested in applying for a job — but there’s one kind that stands out. Embiricos shared some advice for young engineers in a recent episode of ”The Twenty Minute VC” podcast with Harry Stebbings.
”Basically, there’s actually never been a better time to be an engineer because you have incredible tooling available to you to get an incredible amount done,” Embiricos said, adding that he thinks engineers should be ”very optimistic.”

The US Department of Defense has reportedly reached a deal to use Elon Musk’s Grok in its classified systems, according to Axios. That follows news that the Pentagon is currently in a dispute with another AI company, Anthropic, over limits on its technology for things like mass surveillance.
Last year, the White ordered Grok, along with ChatGPT, Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude to be approved for government use. Up until now, though, only Anthropic’s model has been allowed for the military’s most sensitive tasks in intelligence, weapons development and battlefield operations. Claude was reportedly used in the Venezuelan raid in which the US military exfiltrated the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.
