Amnesty har kartlagt angreppen och påhoppen på kvinnor på Twitter under de senaset två åren och uppmanat Twitter att offentligt redogöra för omfattningen och vad Twitter gör att för att få stopp på de verbala attackerna.
We are experiencing a watershed moment with women around the world using their collective power to speak out about the abuse they face and amplify their voices through social media platforms. However, Twitter’s failure to effectively tackle violence and abuse on the platform has a chilling effect on freedom of expression online and undermines women’s mobilisation for equality and justice – particularly groups of women who already face discrimination and marginalisation.
Amnesty International has repeatedly urged Twitter to publicly share comprehensive and meaningful information about reports of violence and abuse against women, as well as other groups, on the platform, and how they respond to it.

Working with Element AI, we first designed a large, unbiased dataset of thousands of tweets mentioning 778 women politicians and journalists from the UK and US. The sample of women selected included all parliamentarians from the UK Parliament and US Congress and Senate as well as women journalists from publications like the Daily Mail, Gal Dem, the Guardian, Pink News, the Sun in the UK and Breitbart and the New York Times in the USA.
More than 6,500 digital volunteers from around the world then took part in Troll Patrol, analysing 288,000 unique tweets to create a labelled dataset of abusive or problematic content. The volunteers were shown an anonymized tweet mentioning one of the women in our study, then were asked simple questions about whether the tweets were abusive or problematic, and if so, whether they revealed misogynistic, homophobic or racist abuse, or other types of violence. Each tweet was analysed by multiple people. The volunteers were given a tutorial and definitions and examples of abusive and problematic content, as well as an online forum where they could discuss the tweets with each other and with Amnesty International’s researchers.

BuzzFeed News obtained a document Facebook commissioned as research on billionaire George Soros following critical comments the billionaire investor made at the World Economic Forum earlier this year. This report, whoch you can read below, is at the center of a controversy surrounding Facebook’s previous relationship with a public relations firm that brought Beltway political tactics to the social networking giant.
The document, whoch is largely innocuous, was assembled by Definers Public Affairs, whoch was contracted by Facebook for communications consulting and opposition research on competitors and critics, including Soros. It is one of at least two files prepared after Soros appeared onstage in Davos, Switzerland, in January and said Facebook and Google were a “menace” to the world and that the “internet monopolies” did not have the will or inclination to protect society.

Ms. Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, asked for the information in an email to a senior executive in January that was forwarded to other senior communications and policy staff, the people said. The email came within days of a blistering speech Mr. Soros delivered that month at the World Economic Forum, attacking Facebook and Google as a “menace” to society and calling for the companies to be regulated.
Utredare i det brittiska parlamentet har utnyttjat en sällan använd brittisk lag för att kunna beslagta dokument från Facebook som ett led i utredningen av Cambridge Analytica-skandalen.

I det hör fallet så utnyttjades lagstiftning som ger parlamentet rätt att under en pågående utredning beslagta dokument. Något en av cheferna för Six4Three ställdes inför. En av Six4Three största kunder heter Facebooks.
Krävde
Parlamentet skickade över sin ”serjeant at arms” till det hotell där chefen bodde, krävde att dokumenten skulle lämnas över inom två timmar. Chefen vägrade och eskorterades då till parlamentet dör han upplystes om att såvida han inte lämnade över dokumenten så skulle han ställas inför rätta och han riskerade både böter och fängelse.
”We felt this [information] was highly relevant to the inquiry… and therefore we sent an order to Mr [Ted] Kramer through the serjeant at arms asking that these documents be supplied to us. Ultimately, that order was complied with.”
Så kröp det fram till slut – Facebook hade anlitat Definers Public Affairs för att svartmåla finansmannen George Soros. Facebooks Elliot Schrage tar på sig ansvaret, hela ansvaret medan Mark Zuckerberg och Sheryl Sandberg förnekar att de hade kännedom om vad den egna kommunikationsavdelningen sysslade med.
Elliot Schrage är på väg att lämna Facebook men inte som en direkt följd av skandalen runt Definers Public Affair. Det beslutet had fattats innan New York Times avslöjanden.
Responsibility for these decisions rests with leadership of the Communications team. That’s me. Mark and Sheryl relied on me to manage this without controversy.
I knew and approved of the decision to hire Definers and similar firms. I should have known of the decision to expand their mandate. Over the past decade, I built a management system that relies on the teams to escalate issues if they are uncomfortable about any project, the value it will provide or the risks that it creates. That system failed here and I’m sorry I let you all down. I regret my own failure here.
Schrage förnekar att Definers Public Affiars fick till uppdrag att svartmåla George Soros eller sprida falsk information om finansmannen., bland det som publicerades av lobbyorganisationen finns även information och texter som rubricerats som anti-semitiska vilket Schrage också förnekar ingick i Definers uppdrag.
