Äldre sprider flest falska nyheter

Är du över 65 år? I så fall tillhör du den grupp nätanvändare som sprider mest falska nyheter. Det visar en ny undersökning som är gjord av Science Advances.

Undersökningen är gjord före och efter valet i USA 2016 och länkar som publicerats har faktagranskats.

Today’s study, published in Science Advances, examined user behavior in the months before and after the 2016 US presidential election. In early 2016, the academics started working with research firm YouGov to assemble a panel of 3,500 people, whoch included both Facebook users and non-users. On November 16th, just after the election, they asked Facebook users on the panel to install an application that allowed them to share data including public profile fields, religious and political views, posts to their own timelines, and the pages that they followed. Users could opt in or out of sharing individual categories of data, and researchers did not have access to the News Feeds or data about their friends.

Löpare åtalas för ofredande av tv-reporter

Mitt i direktsändning och rapporterande om en löpartävling slår en av löparna reportern i baken.

Mannen har nu identifierats och han har anmält sig själv till polisen.

A runner who slapped a reporter’s butt on live television as she was covering a race in Georgia last weekend was arrested Friday on a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery. Thomas Callaway, 43, was arrested after turning himself in and was released on a $1,300 bond, police confirmed.

Callaway is accused of slapping reporter Alex Bozarjian’s butt as she was reporting at the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run for NBC affiliate WSAV-TV. He was running at the event and his action, as well as Bozarjian’s stunned reaction, quickly went viral. Bozarjian later filed a sexual battery report with the Savannah Police Department. The report says she “described the smack as a ‘smack and grab,’ advising that he also grabbed her buttocks in the same motion. She stated she felt a sharp sting after the smack and advised that it caused her to pause during the broadcast.”

Amerikanska FTC kan stoppa Facebooks planer

Facebook vill slå samman  WhatsApp, Instagram och Facebook Messenger till en mer samordnad tjänst, end-to-end, och där användardata samlas in och används gemensamt. Planer som den amerikanska myndigheten FTC nu överväger att stoppa.

FTC har en pågående utredning riktad mot Facebook rörande eventuella brott de amerikanska konkurrenslagarna och det är med anledning av den utredningen som FTC nu vill stoppa Facebooks planer. Myndigheten befarar att den sociala mediajätten skulle få ett alltför stort grepp och inflytande på marknaden.

The commission started its investigation after Facebook announced that it would unify the technical underpinnings of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. That would allow its 2.7 billion users to send private, encrypted messages from one app that could be received on another. ”We’re building a foundation for social communication aligned with the direction people increasingly care about: messaging each other privately,” he said at the time.

Sociala medier missar att städa ut 95 procent av alla falska konton

De stora sociala mediaplattformarna har ett problem med falska konton som sprider propaganda och påhittade uppgifter. En färsk undersökningar visar också att de stora sociala medierna inte städar ut uppenbart falska konton.

Undersökningen är gjord av the NATO Strategic Communication Centre of Excellence (StratCom) och genom att skapa konton, köpa annonser så har de olika sociala mediatjänsterna testats.

The research team spent €300 (about $332) to purchase engagement on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, the report (PDF) explains. That sum bought 3,520 comments, 25,750 likes, 20,000 views, and 5,100 followers. They then used those interactions to work backward to about 19,000 inauthentic accounts that were used for social media manipulation purposes.

About a month after buying all that engagement, the research team looked at the status of all those fake accounts and found that about 80 percent were still active. So they reported a sample selection of those accounts to the platforms as fraudulent. Then came the most damning statistic: three weeks after being reported as fake, 95 percent of the fake accounts were still active.

TikTok ber om ursäkt för raderade videor och skyller på den mänskliga faktorn

TikTok backar nu och ber om ursäkt för att en video som hade  1.5 miljoner visningar raderades tillsammans med kontot som hade publicerat video. I videon protesterar användaren mot Kinas behandling av den muslimska Uiguriska minoriteten i landet.

Till saken hör att TikTok är en tjänst som ägs av ett kinesiskt bolag och tjänsten har ifrågasatts just av det skälet – täta band med det kinesiska kommunistpartiet.

Enligt TikTok så stängdes det aktuella kontot ned därför att användarens och användarens telefon använts för att posta inlägg på ett annat konto som stängts tidigare sedan bilder på Usama Bin-Laden publicerats. I ett långt inlägg förklarar TikTok varför kontot och videon raderades från tjänsten.

No China-related content was moderated on this account.

November 14, 2019 @ 7:53pm ET – The user posted to a newly-created, second TikTok account (@getmefamouspartthree). As of the time of this blog post, that account had 19 videos in total.

November 23, 2019 @ 7:05pm ET – The user posted a video to that second account that talked about the Uighur community in China. As of the time of this blog post, the video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on the app.
